The assessment areas in detail

Area 1 — Insurance (10 points): Current public liability and professional indemnity insurance. We verify certificates and check expiry dates. If your cover lapses, your TagWise status is suspended until it’s renewed

Area 2 — Qualifications & competency (20 points): Relevant electrical qualifications such as a Certificate in Electrotechnology or equivalent competent person status under AS/NZS 3760. We also require a training and competency register for all staff who carry out testing, including competency levels and years of experience. Evidence of ongoing professional development earns higher scores.

Area 3 — Equipment & calibration (15 points): A register of all PAT testers and testing equipment with serial numbers. Current calibration certificates from an accredited laboratory. Evidence of a calibration schedule and a clear process for managing equipment that falls out of calibration.

Area 4 — Compliance with AS/NZS 3760 (15 points): Documented testing procedures that reference the current edition of the standard. Evidence that staff are trained in these procedures. Sample test records demonstrating that the correct test types are being applied to the correct appliance classes.

Area 5 — Record keeping & reporting (15 points): Sample test reports and compliance certificates. Records must include appliance description, asset ID, test date, test type performed, pass or fail result, next test due date, and operator name. We also look for evidence of a reliable system for maintaining records — whether that’s dedicated software, a database, or a well-structured register.

Area 6 — Failed appliance management (10 points): A documented process for what happens when an appliance fails. This includes tagging as failed, removing from service or isolating the item, notifying the client, and recording the outcome. We check that this process is communicated to all testing staff and followed consistently.

Area 7 — Health & safety policy (10 points): A reviewed and signed health and safety policy covering the specific hazards of test and tag work — electrical risk, manual handling, working in client environments, travel to site. Must be reviewed and signed within the last 24 months.

Area 8 — Incident management (10 points): An incident register covering the previous 12 months. Evidence that incidents and near misses are recorded, investigated, and discussed with workers. If no incidents have occurred, quarterly sign-offs confirming this.

Area 9 — Risk management (10 points): A risk register covering all foreseeable hazards including electrical contact, working at height for ceiling-mounted equipment, confined spaces, travel, and fatigue. Must include initial risk ratings, controls, and residual risk ratings. Reviewed within the last 24 months.

Area 10 — Quality assurance (10 points): Evidence of internal quality processes such as peer reviews, spot-checks on completed work, or internal audits. A process for identifying and correcting errors. A mechanism for receiving and acting on client feedback.

How scoring works

Every assessment area has a maximum number of points. Your assessor reviews the evidence you submit and awards points based on the quality and completeness of what you provide. Your total score determines your tier.

What your assessor looks for…

With Assessors having decades of experience in the electrical safety industry you can know its more than just a tag to them.

Current documentation

Insurance, calibration certificates, qualifications, and policies must be current and within their review or expiry dates.

Real evidence

Not just policies on paper — we want to see sample test records, completed registers, and proof the systems are being used.
